Flip Cup
A fast-paced team relay: drink, then flip your cup upside down off the table edge before the next teammate can go.
Category: drinking · Players: 6-16 · Duration: 10-30 min · Difficulty: easy
Rules
- Split into two equal teams on opposite sides of a table.
- Each player has a cup with the same amount of drink.
- On go, the first players drink, place the cup on the table edge and flip it upside down using one hand.
- Once it lands, the next teammate goes. First team to finish all flips wins.
Set up before the first turn
Bring Plastic cups, Table, Drinks. Gather 6-16 and place everything where all players can reach it before the first round.
Example first round
For a sample opening, the host reads the first instruction: “Split into two equal teams on opposite sides of a table.” Once that is complete, continue with: “Each player has a cup with the same amount of drink.” Treat this first pass as practice if anyone is unsure.
Host it well
- Decide on alcohol-free forfeits and a no-questions-asked pass rule before the first turn. Nobody should be pressured to drink.
- Keep the explanation brief and start with a demonstration rather than repeating the written rules.
- Plan for about 10-30 min, but finish at the end of a good round if the group's attention starts to drop.
You'll need
- Plastic cups
- Table
- Drinks
Keep it sober
Use water — it's about the flip, not the sip.
Inclusive play
Use water — it's about the flip, not the sip. Passing is always allowed, and a non-alcoholic choice should carry exactly the same status in the game.
