Charades
Act out words and phrases without speaking while your team races the clock to guess.
Category: party · Players: 4-20 · Duration: 20-60 min · Difficulty: easy
Rules
- Split into two teams. One player acts, their team guesses.
- No speaking, mouthing words, or pointing at objects.
- Set a timer (60-120 seconds) per turn.
- One point per correct guess. Most points after equal rounds wins.
Set up before the first turn
Bring Timer, Word list or generator. Gather 4-20 and place everything where all players can reach it before the first round.
Example first round
For a sample opening, the host reads the first instruction: “Split into two teams. One player acts, their team guesses.” Once that is complete, continue with: “No speaking, mouthing words, or pointing at objects.” Treat this first pass as practice if anyone is unsure.
Host it well
- Use a practice turn for new players and rotate the starting player so the same person does not lead every round.
- Keep the explanation brief and start with a demonstration rather than repeating the written rules.
- Plan for about 20-60 min, but finish at the end of a good round if the group's attention starts to drop.
You'll need
- Timer
- Word list or generator
Inclusive play
Let any player pass without explaining why. Adjust time limits, reading, movement, or team roles so people can contribute without disclosing an accessibility need.
